During and After Surgery

After your consultation with the anesthesiologist, you will be taken to the operating room by a nurse. Once there, the anesthesiologist will put on standard monitors, such as a blood pressure cuff and will begin administering the sedative. The anesthesiologist will be closely monitoring you during the entire surgical procedure. After your surgery is complete, the surgeon will speak with you, your caregiver, or family members and you will be taken to the recovery room.

In the recovery room, you will fully awaken from the sedation and will eventually be given ice chips followed by a small amount of water for hydration. Your surgeon will then speak with you about the surgery and follow-up visits. You will receive detailed instructions for taking care of yourself at home and a prescription for pain medication (if needed).
